Free Link Exchange

Posted By Web Designer On 3rd January 2007 @ 11:33 In Website News & Tips | Comments Disabled

All websites need other websites pointing to them. There are many websites offering [1] free link exchanges and these can be a good strategy — most of the time.

When you are looking for sites to swap links with (called a link exchange) you should firstly consider sites in the same industry and field as your site. So if you are a [2] singing teacher in melbourne, start by doing a search to find other like-minded sites and then contact those sites requesting a free link exchange.

When you contact these sites make it as easy as possible for them to link to you by you supplying them with the information you would like them to use. At the very least you need to tell them the URL, and then the keywords the link should contain and if possible they may also inculde a brief description of your site.

For example:
URL - http://mariapellicano.com.au/singing-school.html
Keywords - Singing School Teacher
Description - Maria Pellicano is a professional Jaanz vocal coach at her singing school in Melbourne.

By supplying this sort of information you will be far more likely to get a free link exchange.

Beware of Free Link Exchanges

As hinted at previously, a free link exchange can be good most of the time. SO when are free link exchanges not good? When you are swapping links with websites with bad reputations.

Most websites are good and these sites will be found at the top of the search engine results pages. Bad websites won’t be found there often so if you do a search for a phrase, it is normally ok to request a free link exchange with them.

Websites with bad reputations have been “red flagged” by search engines because they don’t abide by the guidelines that search engine defines. To know more about this, you should [3] read the Webmaster Guidelines for Google.

Bad websites have been built using tactics that are unscroupulous. I won’t describe these here lest a reader falls into the trap of trying them out. But for those inquisitive minds, these bad free link exchanges mostly use automated systems — so steer clear of them.
