Content Management System Software

The best websites are ones where the content is kept up-to-date and relevant. The easiest way to do this is to have the website content stored in a database and maintained by using content management system (CMS) software. There are many different CMS’s to choose from but here are a few that we have found especially useful for different applications. These are all either free or very cheap to use or buy licences for.

PHP Content Management System Reviews

CMSimple

[1] CMSimple is a simple content management system; for the smart maintenance of small commercial or private sites. It is small - simple - smart! It has been used on many of our sites and the clients can adjust the content (text and images) easily.

The simplicity of this CMS comes from all the content not being stored in a database but instead uses in html page. This is a good simple option but doesn’t allow for most of the features the other systems have.

Wordpress

[2] WordPress is a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. Unlike CMSimple, its content is stored in a database but is even easier to setup and maintain.

Some of the things I like about Wordpress is its ability to generate and write valid lite code into templates that are lean. This enables Wordpress sites to rank well in search results pages. There are also an in-nuerable number of plug-ins that can enhance the use and display of the sites content.

Joomla (Mambo)

A newly named branch of the well used Mambo CMS is [3] Joomla. Joomla! is one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet. It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable. It too has many extra features that other people have developed that can be added to the main core to enhance the site.

osCommerce

With over 6 years of operation, [4] osCommerce has built a showcase of more than 10,000 online shops worldwide. It is an Open Source software package that is being developed by expert website building volunteers. If you have bought anything online in a store before then it is quite likely that the site was using osCommerce. It is a good option to getting a shop online.
